[Solved] Port Public Mobile number to another Public Mobile account help
Need confirmation
My mom used all the bonuses, but my dad still has all the bonuses they had offered.
Getting my dad the $5 Freedom Mobile plan, since he only needs phone to receive calls.
Do I need to port out of Public Mobile account to port in another Public Mobile number to another PM account.

Got the $5 Freedom plan with free eSIM. Transferred my mom's PM number to it, and then transferred it to my dad's PM sim card.
When I transferred to my dad's PM sim card using PM website, text messaging did not work. Had to call Telus porting support to create a new transfer request since there was an issue with the account number and the transfer was not completed.
Transfer was completed after new transfer request a bit had to call again since text messaging did not work. They verified transfer was completed, and got transferred to Telus technical support. They did some general trouble shooting, refreshed the settings, asked me to power on and off phone. After these steps, text messaging worked.

Did your dad get a new number? or is he planning to keep his existing number?
In your scenario if your dad wants to keep his existing number, his bonus will be lost, and no way for your mom to use it (even if she were to port out of PM, and back to PM).

If that's the case, port out your mom's number to any carrier, then port it into your dad's PM account. He will be losing his PM number.

Thanks
Only need to give a few people his new number, so he does not care for losing current number.
Any recommendation on lost cost way to port my mom's number?

TBH, I haven't looked into cheap porting options in years (when FIDO was the best option where you can activate without topping up).
I know at 1 point Virgin mobile SIM is $4 at Dollarama, and you were able to activate without topping up. I don't know if this is an option in 2024.

Last time I checked the SpeakOut SIM was $10, Lucky SIMs can be had at Dollarama for $4.
Haven't done this in a long time, so I'm not sure about the current policies around topping up at time of activation / port-in... IF you need to top up, SpeakOut's cheapest top-up is $25, Lucky's cheapest plan is $15.
In the past I found porting out of Lucky to be less prone to hick-ups than SpeakOut (who doesn't have classic account numbers).
If you are in the subscription area, there's also the Freedom BTS $5 plan... if you activate on prepaid, the activation fee is $10, if you are not able to have it waived. There's reports that activating directly on eSIM is free. (You'll need help from an agent to do the later.)

Yes, I am Freedom subscription area and already have a line with them (BF $99 50GB prepaid annual) and currently used for Data (eSIM) on my mom's phone.
I am getting my Dad the new $5 plan with new number, but his phone only supports physical SIM. Was planning to go to Walmart to get it with activation waived.
I am aware that online reps were waiving activation fee.
Will try getting an esim, port my mom's PM number to it, and then port to dad's PM account.
I have some time since mom's PM subscription ends August 12th.
My plan is to drain all the data bonuses (barely used) from dad's PM account then port out to another provider.
